Winter Luncheon 2012
Collaborative Divorce:
Turning the Page from Argument to Negotiation in
High Conflict Relationships
By Jonathan Wall, Psy.D.
Objectives: Dr. Wall, along with attorneys Maryann Bauers, Theresa Thompson and financial advisor Craig Hyldal will present a short talk on collaborative law and the role mental health professionals play in helping the divorcing couples resolve their differences.
They will discuss:
1. The natural fit for the psychologist to help parties to clarify their differences and move beyond conflict by focusing only on the divorce matters.
2. The need to discourage therapeutic regression of the ego to achieve insight.
3. Negotiation techniques that help parties awaken to how they can let go of minor aims and objectives to achieve more important goals and objectives.
4. Research on the perils of divorce litigation and the need for psychologists to expand their practices by facilitating collaborative efforts in family law.

About our Speaker: Jonathan D. Wall, Psy.D. is a psychologist in private practice at 27 Center Street, Clinton. He combines his years of experience working with children and couples to help families navigate past the troubles of divorce. Besides providing couples and family therapy, he is involved with the New Jersey Collaborative Law Group which aims to help families facing divorce to separate in a more constructive, less adversarial manner by fostering a positive, less conflicted, cooperative relationship between the parents. At the same time, much of his practice involves preparing parental fitness, best interest and relocation evaluations combined with risk assessments and neuropsychological evaluations to address complex family problems. For the past few years, he served as Chair of the NJPA Forensic Interest Group. He has courtesy staff privileges at East Mt./Carrier Foundation.
